In your SOHO or home I can install wiring, configure your network, diagnose networking issues, etc.  I am proficient with Windows and Linux networking.  I can install network cameras, configure shared resources such as file sharing and printers, etc.

I can also offer file and web servers fully configured - just plug them into your network and you're ready to go.  File servers are useful for centralizing your data, which, in turn, make backups much more convenient and effective because all your photos, documents, music, videos, etc. are in one location.  This also makes backing up client workstations much easier.  I am becoming more and more proficient with the Linux Operating System and prefer it over Microsoft products for many reasons, the primary being (for my clients) - price. Microsoft Server Products are expensive to install and maintain.  Linux is OpenSource, free, secure, and well documented.  Linux and its derivatives run the majority of the Internet!  It's more difficult to master - but more powerful and efficient.

I am proficient in most major networking protocols and services.  I can configure secure remote access to your network via the Internet using VPN, Samba, or Terminal Server.  I can analyze and repair firewall issues and port forwarding on you routers.

I charge the same price for network services, that I do for computer repairs, $15.00 service fee for onsite service, plus $65.00/hr. I also extend the $45.00/hr rate for first time clients.

Fun with networking:

My own home network consists of one webserver - which is serving up this page, a one terabyte Network Storage device which holds 8 years worth of photos, home movies, 80 or so Movies, thousands of MP3's and much more.  All this data is accessible from my 42" plasma in the living room via an XBOX.  I also have WiFi installed for the for my daughter's laptop and the living room laptop.  I can access all this data securely from remote locations.  I can stream the MP3's and show my photos, and some videos, from other friends and family members homes.  I also have a network camera in a pepsi bottle on my back porch - I call it the Birdfeeder cam.
